In 2006 Brad Pitt, producer Harvey Weinstein and director Steven Soderbergh were in the process of making a biopic about the life of Luther Vandross when they decided against releasing it. The film was eventually released in 2009 without their input. In this film, a young Luther Vandross is discovered in his Brooklyn walk-up apartment by Clive Davis who signs him to his label and then takes him out on tour. He meets an aspiring singer named Mary J Blige and becomes her mentor while also getting romantically involved with Debbie Geppi, aunt of actor Jake Geppi who portrays him in the movie. So far, there has been no official soundtrack released although several fans have made what is considered to be the best Luther Vandross compilation album. It is called The Ultimate Luther Vandross and was compiled by Finnish DJ Mikkie. This album has the distinction of having almost every song Luther ever recorded including some rare tracks not easily found.
